Poems 4 The Journey

Poems 4 The Journey - by Pauline Murtagh
Poem 1

You are the Light that shines through the darkness
You are the Light never ending in days
You are the Light that is never extinguished
You are the Light that shines on our way
You are the Light, our Hope for tomorrow
You are the Light, the Glory to come
You are the Light, the end and beginning
You are the Light, the Glorious One.
…………………………….

When I’m condemned and feeling low
There is a place that I can go
To One who said He’d help me stand
Uphold me with His strong right hand
And fight my battles in His will
So that His purpose is fulfilled
And when the victory he has won
I’ll thank and praise Him
God’s own Son.
………………………………………..

I gave Him all my fears
He gently dried my tears
He healed the scars, the hurt, the pain
And made this person whole again
……………………………………..

You set my feet upon a path
And all along the way
You’ve sent some friends to help me
And pray for me each day
They sometimes come to listen
Or just to let me talk
And sometimes they just come along
To be with me, and walk
Sometimes we cry, sometimes we laugh,
But we always speak of You,
The One who is our dearest friend
The One forever true.

Poem 2

One day my life was shattered
My heart was torn in two
I couldn’t mend the pieces
So I gave them back to You
The reason for my trial
I didn’t understand
But then one day I realized
T’was in the Master’s plan
You gently took the pieces
The anguish and the sorrow
And made my world complete again
So I could face tomorrow
And I know, that one day long ago
Your heart was broken too
The price for sins of all mankind
Was paid that day by You.
…………………………………..

To look upon Your beauty and see Your awesome splendour
My life, with all its failings, to You I now surrender
Take me even deeper, Lord, and lead me on with You
That I may know your sovereign plan in everything I do
So I can climb to higher heights, which so far are unreached
Mould me, Lord, so I can learn the things You want to teach
And lead me into spheres unknown, that I may seek Your face
And gaze upon Your glorious throne and marvel at Your grace.
………………………………….

I will restore years that the locust has eaten
I will cause deserts to come forth in bloom
I will pour oil into hearts that were broken
Setting them free from the pain and the gloom
I will give peace to the lost and the lonely
Beauty for ashes and joy for their pain
New wine to drink that’s life-giving, restoring
Lighting a flame in their hearts once again
I will por rain down from heaven upon them
Strong winds that blow from the heavens above
Sending My Spirit to minister to them
Soaking each one in the depths of My love.

Poem 3

I cried to You, Lord, in the night
When I was weary from the fight
You said,” My child, it’s time to rest
And wait for Me, for I know best
Your strength it needs to be renewed
Those battle scars need healing too
You need to spend some time with Me
And then My purposes you’ll see
For when the healing is complete
Then you will stand well on your feet
Yes! When you’ve rested for a while
You can return again, My child,
With armour on and sword in hand
You will at last possess the land”.
………………………………..

You know all my faults and failings
Yet You never would accuse
Even when I let You down
And Your trust and love abuse
Your heart forever tender
Drawing me aside
Saying, “Child, just come to Me
And in My love abide
My grace is all sufficient
To help you when you fall
My love for you is endless
It’s the greatest gift of all”.
……………………………………….

How can you say you have nothing to do
When a world all around you is dying?
Ask Him to bring your way somebody who
Needs some oil of joy for their sighing
And how can you say you’ve nothing to do
When the fields they are ripe for the harvest?
And oh as He searches for labourers few,
Are you willing to give of your service?
To bind up the broken and bring the Good news
And tell them their soul is too precious to lose
And the weight can be lifted for certain
Yes! Who will go and tell them if not me or you
Of the One who can save them from sinning?
Oh! How can we say we have nothing to do
When there are millions of souls to be winning?
